Magnitude 6.4 earthquake hits Dalupiri Island, Cagayan


A magnitude 6.4 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, on Tuesday evening.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the tectonic earthquake happened at 7:03 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The epicenter was located 26 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri.

In a tweet, Phivolcs said that no tsunami threat to the Philippines has been detected.

Intensity IV was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, while instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:

  • Intensity IV - Aparri, Gonzaga, Cagayan; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
  • Intensity III - Peñablanca, Cagayan; Sinait, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity II - Ilagan, Isabela
  • Intensity I - Casiguran, Aurora; Candon, Narvacan, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur

PHIVOLCS said aftershocks were expected.

At 7:33 p.m., a magnitude 3.7 earthquake hit 25 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri at a depth of 29 kilometers.
