Over 2k students in Marinduque receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation

The GMA Kapuso Foundation gave away school supplies to 2,004 kindergarten and grade 1 students in Marinduque.

According to “24 Oras,” Wednesday, Gio Selva was among the students who received school supplies.

Gio’s father and grandfather make Morion clothes that would be used for the Moriones Festival, which is held every Holy Week. They earn P20,000 for every five costumes they create.

On regular days, they only earn P2 for every Morion keychain they sell.

Their earnings, however, are not enough to provide for Gio’s school supplies.

“Dahil po mahina ang mga bakasyonista, walang bumibili gaano. Pag Holy Week, mas marami ang bakasyonista, mas marami ang benta,” Gio’s grandfather Eulogio Selva said.

Despite the hardship, Gio remains determined.

“Gusto ko pong maging pulis. Gusto kong bumili ng magandang bahay,” he said.

Meanwhile, five-year-old Kyle Camontoy joins dance contests so he can buy shoes.

Kyle’s family was among those affected by Typhoon Paeng, which struck the province last October 2022.

“Sumasali po ako sa mga contest para pambili ng gamit,” Kyle said.

His parents are also grateful because Kyle is a hardworking student.

Through the GMA Kapuso Foundation’s Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project, complete sets of school supplies were given to the students.

“Ito ay isang malaking tulong malaking tulong, kabawasan ito sa mga gastusin ng magulang,” DepEd Marinduque Senior Education Program Specialist for Social Mobilization and Networking Melanie Mendoza said.

For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
