Grade 12 student who bought cellphone load found dead the next day

A Grade 12 student who went out to buy cellphone load on Thursday night was found dead on Friday morning in Toledo, Cebu.

According to the report on "Saksi" by GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak's Alan Domingo, Sharmaine Flores was found in a grassy area in Barangay Bunga at past 6 a.m.

Her body was found by a cousin who was in the area to fetch water.

Sharmaine's mother said the student told her she would go out to buy cellphone load on Thursday night.

The family went out looking for her on Friday morning.

Sharmaine was the only daughter among seven siblings.

She worked while she studied to earn money to pay for her tuition and to help her mother, who's a single parent.

Police said it appeared that she had been strangled.

They are looking into whether or not she was raped. Her short pants had been pulled down when her body was found.

Police have arrested suspect Jonathan Sugabo. He lives near the crime scene.

Sugabo would not give an interview when the news team sought his comment. —NB, GMA Integrated News
