Battered by recent typhoons, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte brace for Goring
Barely two months since they were devastated by typhoons Egay and Falcon, several towns in the provinces of Cagayan and llocos Norte are now preparing for another calamity, this time, Severe Tropical Storm Goring.
According to a "24 Oras" report by Ivy Hernando on Friday, authorities in Cagayan have prepared relief goods in seven areas in the province.
A no-sailing policy has also been imposed in coastal communities.
The following towns have also been declared as areas of immediate concern:
- Sta. Ana
- Aparri
- Gonzaga
- Sta. Teresita
- Buguey
- Baggao
- Penablanca
- Gattaran
- Lal-lo
- Calayan Islands
Rescue personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the Calayan Islands have been deployed.
“’Yan ‘yung pinapa-prepare natin dahil all efforts are now in those islands of Fuga and Calayan. Lahat ng mga relief and recovery efforts natin, nandoon sila,” said Cagayan DRRM officer Ruelie Rapsing.
The Cagayan PDRRM already issued advice for residents in flood-prone areas to be ready for preemptive evacuation.
Meanwhile, residents in Ilocos Norte are also preparing for the onslaught of Goring after the last two typhoons badly hit several towns of the provinces.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
