Fire hits speedboat in Zamboanga City; 3 people rescued

Three people were rescued after their speedboat caught fire in the vicinity waters off Zamboanga City Pier on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday.

In a statement, the PCG said Fadi Laminusa Express departed from Tres Marias, Baliwasan Seaside in the same city for a sea trial when the crew noticed a fire between the fuel tank and battery around 2 p.m.

The three crew members sustained first-degree burns. The Coast Guard Medical Clinic-Southwestern Mindanao provided them with immediate medical care.

Responders declared fire out at 3:30 p.m.

The speedboat eventually sank 300 meters south of Barangay Mariki, according to the PCG. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
