Chop-chop victim’s body found a month after engineer reported missing

The dismembered body of an engineer who had been missing for a month has been found in a creek in Bacoor, Cavite.

According to Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras," the remains of Engineer Napoleon Fernandez were cut into a few sections and placed in sacks before being thrown into the creek.

The body was discovered after the suspect identified as Romnick Bombeo told the police where he took the body.

Bombeo was the victim's confidant, who had lived at the victim's house for two years.

“During custodial debriefing po kinwento po ni suspect na nung time po nung July 7 birthday po ni engineer, victim po, na nagtatalo po sila habang umiinom siya," said Police Major Renalyn Lim of the Bacoor Police Public Information Office.

"Eto daw po si victim, chinallege siya na sige patayin mo ako. So dali daling kunuha ni suspect yung samurai, sinaksak si victim,” she added.

The suspect was arrested after he was seen leaving the victim's house with a backpack on August 7, after the Cebu Police contacted the Bacoor cops regarding the victim, who had been missing for a month.

The suspect allegedly resisted when the police tried to arrest him.

“Nakita po ‘yung laman ng bag is yung pera po at saka mga alahas ni victim and ID and ATM cards,” Lim said.

To hide the killing, Bombeo allegedly chopped the victim's body into pieces, carried them one by one, and threw them in the creek.

“Nilagay niya sa maleta then nilagay niya sa creek. Sumakay siya sa jeep, five to seven times niyang hinakot yung katawan ni victim,” Lim said.

The victim's brother, Danilo Fernandez, said it was difficult to accept that his brother died at the hands of a person that he trusted.

Aside from the previously filed charges of qualified theft and direct assault, the suspect is set to be charged with robbery with homicide.

Meanwhile, the Bacoor PNP is still investigating if he had an accomplice in the murder and attempted robbery. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
