Over 2k residents in Bangued, Abra receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation following Typhoon Egay

More than 2,000 residents from Bangued, Abra received help from the GMA Kapuso Foundation following the catastrophe brought by Typhoon Egay.

According to “24 Oras,” Friday, the calamity took place one year after the province was struck by a magnitude-seven earthquake, from which the residents are still recovering.

“Ngayon, as in, wala, hindi na pwedeng tirahan. Back to zero talaga kami. Walang puhunan, walang pera, walang gamit, walang bahay,” says resident Grace Sabugo.

Grace’s home collapsed due to the intense flooding caused by the typhoon. The flood also swept away the fruits that she was supposed to sell.

Despite being completely covered in thick mud, Grace tried to save some remaining items that they could still use, including her kids’ medals.

“Nawala man samin ang lahat pero dyan namin makikita kung bakit kami kailangan talaga na bumangon at magsakripisyo para sa mga anak namin,” she said.

“Dito sa Barangay Lipcan, tumaas po kasi yung tubig galing sa Abra River mula sa Kabulwan, Sta. Rosa papunta rito sa Lipcan. Nasa walong talampakan po. Halos bubong ng bahay po ang inabot ng baha,” says Karlo Antonio Rosal, PDRRM Abra rescue responder.

To help, GMA Kapuso Foundation, through Operation Bayanihan, delivered relief goods and hygiene kits to over 2,000 individuals in Barangay Lipcan in Bangued, Abra.

“Maraming salamat po sa GMA Kapuso Foundation. Malaking tulong po sa amin, hindi lang po sa amin, sa lahat po ng nakatira, mga nabaha,” Grace said.

For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
