Mourning family places 18 roses on Binangonan boat victim’s coffin

Kyla Coral was supposed to celebrate her debut this Saturday. Instead, her devastated family has been left to place the 18 roses meant for her birthday on her coffin, after the boat she was on sank in the waters off Binangonan, Rizal last week.

In Joseph Morong's report on "24 Oras" on Monday, Kyla's loved ones approached her coffin, offering roses and embracing a framed photo of her.

Complaints of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple injuries, and negligence have been filed against the boat's owner, its captain, two crew, and a Coast Guard employee.

"Kaya po siya pumasok sa reckless [imprudence] kasi ibig sabihin may negligence, may kapabayaan, may nagkulang, may lapses, pero walang may gusto, hindi sinadya ang aksidenteng nangyari," said Rizal Police spokesperson Police Captain Mariesol Tactaquin.

After the incident, the Philippine Coast Guard tightened inspections of boats setting out from Barangay Pritil in Binangonan, making sure none was over capacity and that everyone on board wore life vests. — BM, GMA Integrated News
