Bacoor, Cavite votes to merge some barangays

Residents of Bacoor, Cavite have voted to merge some barangays, the Commission on Elections said on Sunday.

In a statement on Sunday, the Comelec said that 32,380 of the 114,416 barangay-registered voters in the city—for a voter turn-out of 28.30%—voted overwhelmingly to merge 44 barangays into 18, and to rename five other barangays as a result of the merge.

The 29,285 "yes" votes comprised 90.44% of the total, with 9.25% or 2,994 voting "no."

The plebiscite was held after the issuance of City Ordinance No. 275-2023 on March 28, calling for the merger "to ensure their economic growth and development."

"Result of the plebiscite: RATIFIED," the poll body said. — BM, GMA Integrated News
