Egay causes P1.4 billion in damage in Cagayan province

Super Typhoon Egay caused an estimated P1.4 billion worth of damage in Cagayan province, Governor Manuel Mamba said on Saturday.

As of July 28, Egay had caused P862,300,000 in damage to Cagayan's infrastructure, P1,050,380 in damage to livestock, and P593,443,500.93 in damage to agriculture.

Meanwhile, 15,322 individuals, or 4,865 families, were staying in 237 evacuation centers.

Based on Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) records, Region 2 had 95,618 individuals, or 28,666 families, staying in evacuation centers in Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.

Meanwhile, 29 out of 40 municipalities' electricity service had been restored, and all roads affected were now passable.

Three airports and seaports have resumed operations.

Thirty-six municipalities have announced classes and work resumption.

However, the Municipality of Sanches Mira, Cagayan, was still under a state of calamity.

A total of 203 houses were damaged, while 7,300 were partially damaged.

The OCD and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) allocated P13,425,469.64 worth of non-food items and financial assistance for the affected individuals in the region.

"So, I think aside from attending to the evacuees, those who have been displaced, mukhang maayos naman, there are no injuries or issues in health care because naagapan naman ninyo," said President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., who was visiting the region.

"Sa DA naman, yun talaga ang inaalala ko ngayon dahil ang laking damage sa mais at palay. I need to get sa DA, the proper reports,"
Marcos added.

"Sinabi ko rin sa Region 1, kung ano yung report nyo kahit hindi pa complete ilagay niyo d'yan. Padala nyo sa amin para maumpisahan namin, that's what we will do sa agri-recovery." — DVM, GMA Integrated News
