San Mateo, Rizal youths distribute free lugaw amid Egay flooding
A group of youths in San Mateo, Rizal did not let the floods brought by Typhoon Egay deter them from helping the community in their own way: by delivering free lugaw to residents who have remained in their homes.
In Ian Cruz's report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, the young men could be seen rowing around with a big pot from which they ladled out bowls of lugaw.
One of the young men, Ivan Cruz, said that other members of the community came together to help them with their mission.
“Bale nag-ambag-ambagan po kami dito sa di po nasalanta. May nagbigay po ng bigas, may nagbigay po ng ingredients para po sa pamigay goto,” he said.
According to the San Mateo MDRRMO, around 600 families have evacuated to seven different evacuation centers.
“Nagbigay nga ako ng instruction na lahat ng barangay ay mag-report sila every two hours para malaman namin ang status doon sa kani-kanilang barangay,” MDRRMO San Mateo Chief Yoy Villanueva said.
