Egay causes flooding in parts of the Philippines
Flooding hit parts of the Philippines due to Super Typhoon Egay and an enhanced Southwest Monsoon, according to James Agustin's report on Unang Balita on Wednesday.
Residents had to be evacuated in different barangays in Puerto Princesa, Palawan as continuous rains swelled up nearby rivers.
More than 300 families have already been evacuated in the province, according to the Puerto Princesa Risk Reduction Management Council.
Flooding also hit parts of Occidental Mindoro as some people were trapped and had to be rescued inside their homes.
Some homes were also flooded in Bacolod City and Cotabato. Some areas also experienced six hours of blackout after toppled trees hit power lines.
In Metro Manila, cars were stalled as high water hit the streets in Araneta Avenue.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) One person reportedly died while two others were injured as Typhoon Egay dumped rains in parts of the country.
In its situational report, the NDRRMC said it is validating the death and the injuries.
No one has been reported missing so far.
Meanwhile, a total of 44,356 families or 180,439 individuals were affected by Egay in eight regions, 21 provinces, 65 cities/municipalities and 261 barangays.
A total of 1,069 persons from Regions 1, 2, 3, and 6 were pre-emptively evacuated.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 remains in effect over parts of Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte. Several areas are still under Signal No. 3 and No. 2. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
