Heavy rains flood parts of Pampanga, Pangasinan

Floods due to the continuous rains hit several areas in Pampanga and Pangasinan provinces, Jasmin Gabriel-Galban reported Monday on “24 Oras."

In the Sta. Barbara town, at least 20 houses were damaged in Sitio Riverside in Barangay Sonquil after the downpour caused Marusay Creek to spill.

Deep floods and high tide were also experienced in Dagupan City.

“Ngayong on and off or light rains ‘yung nararanasan natin dito sa Dagupan, ang magiging problema natin is kabundukan natin. Syempre automatic ang magiging catch basin is Pantal-Sinocalan then Dagupan City,” said Ronald de Guzman, DRRMO officer of Dagupan City.

(Now the rains are intermittent, our problem is the mountains. Of course, the catch basin will be Pantal-Sinocalan then Dagupan City.)

Meanwhile, two alternate bridges were damaged in Floridablanca due to the rising water level of the river and the downpour.

“Ang ginagawa ng municipality of Floridablanca patuloy na nakikipag-coordinate sa DPWH para magawaan ang daan na alternate route,” said Floridablanca DRRM Officer Jayson Sundiam.

(The Floridablanca government is continuously coordinating with the DPWH for alternate routes.)

In Macabebe town, at least 300 families were impacted by the flood.

Latest data from the Pampanga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office showed at least 31 barangays were affected by the flood. As of 6 p.m., at least 36 families or 104 individuals were taking shelter at the evacuation centers.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
