Filinvest’s tech-voc facility at Xavier University to help marginalized SHS students
Gotianun-led conglomerate Filinvest Development Corp. (FDC) has established a technical-vocational scholarship facility with the Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan in a bid to bridge the education gap among marginalized senior high school (SHS) students.
In a statement, FDC said it had partnered with Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan to establish the Andrew L. Gotianun Sr. Center for Integrated Technologies (ALGCIT) in Cagayan de Oro City.
“ALGCIT represents a shared vision of Filinvest and Xavier Ateneo to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that students from underprivileged backgrounds have access to high-quality education and opportunities for socioeconomic advancement," said FDC chairman Jonathan Gotianun.
The ALGCIT will address the educational needs of marginalized students through scholarships, financial aid, and mentorship programs.
Established in 2018, the ALGCIT is an endowment from the Andrew Gotianun Foundation for a two-year tech-voc program for competent yet financially disadvantaged youth.
The program offers specializations in machining technology, instrumentation technology, and mechatronics technology.
Filinvest said that the company and XU-Ateneo de Cagayan welcomed the fifth batch of graduates from the ALGCIT this year.
“In this era of rapid technological advancements, it is crucial to equip the future workforce with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive. With ALGCIT, we aim to create a dynamic ecosystem where innovation flourishes, driving economic growth and societal progress," said Gotianun.
He added that through the initiative, “students can break the cycle of poverty, gain industry-relevant skills, and become valuable contributors to the region's technology ecosystem.” —VBL, GMA Integrated News
