BFAR: 4 coastal areas still positive for toxic red tide


BFAR on Tuesday said four coastal areas remain positive for paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) or toxic red tide that is beyond the regulatory limit

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Tuesday said four coastal areas remain positive for paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) or toxic red tide that is beyond the regulatory limit.

BFAR said all types of shellfish and acetes, also known as alamang, gathered from the following areas are not safe for human consumption:

Coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol

  • San Pedro Bay in Samar
  • Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur
  • Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur

Meanwhile, fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs are safe for human consumption
