Typhoon Betty destroys structures in Cagayan
Typhoon Betty destroyed some structures in Northern Luzon as heavy winds ands strong rains battered several areas.
Among those destroyed is an old warehouse of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority in Sta. Ana, Cagayan according to GTV’s Balitanghali report on Tuesday. No one was reported injured in the incident.
Betty also caused power disruptions in parts of Cagayan.
Meanwhile, more than 940 individuals living in the coastal and low-lying areas were evacuated in the province.
In San Luis, Aurora, over 40 nipa huts from to the Aeta community were destroyed by the strong winds.
One individual was slightly injured.
In La Trinidad Baguio City, several farmers conducted a forced harvest of their crops. They also placed crop protectors but some were still damaged.
A fallen tree in Baguio City meanwhile caused power outage in some areas.
In PAGASA's 5 p.m. weather advisory, Storm Signal Number 2 remains hoisted over Batanes as Typhoon Betty moved more slowly over the Philippine waters.
The center of the eye of the typhoon was last seen 315 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes. It is moving northward slowly while packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center, gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and central pressure of 955 hPa.
Betty is expected to steadily weaken over the next five days and may be downgraded into a severe tropical storm on late Thursday or early Friday. —Sherylin Untalan/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
