Samal Island under state of calamity due to power crisis


A state of calamity has been declared in the Island Garden City of Samal due to the ongoing power crisis, GTV’s Balitanghali reported on Friday.

According to the City Council, this is “to mitigate the adverse impacts of this power crisis and ensure the welfare of our residents, the declaration of a state of calamity enables our government and relevant agencies to employ necessary measures swiftly.”

Meanwhile, P8 million pesos of their calamity fund will be used to acquire a modular generator.

The council also called on Congress to pass a bill revoking the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative franchise, which holds the primary electricity supply in Samal Island. — Sherilyn Untalan/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
