Body of missing fisherman found being eaten by sharks off Lubang
The body of a fisherman was found getting eaten by sharks in waters off Lubang in Occidental Mindoro.
According to the report on "Saksi" of GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog's Denise Abante, only half of the victim's body was recovered by members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard station in Barangay Bicanas.
The victim was last seen alive on May 10 when he asked to be dropped off at an area. He was supposed to catch fish by himself.
Authorities looked for him in waters off Lubang until the evening of May 11.
His body was found on May 12.
"Nakita nila 'yung nga ibon na nakapatong sa tubig. Nu'ng malapit na sila, nakita nila 'yung bangkay," Luvang Mayor Mike Orayani said.
"Inabot nila 'yung bangkay, nandoon pa 'yung ulo ang kaso, napakaraming tiger shark na nakapaligid, kinakain na 'yung katawan," he added.
A maritime police officer shot one of the sharks but in the end, only half of the body was recovered and taken to the victim's family.
GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog is still trying to get a comment from his family. —NB, GMA Integrated News
