PHIVOLCS reports 2 volcanic quakes at Kanlaon; volcano under Alert 1
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Sunday reported two volcanic earthquakes at Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
In its 24-Hour Observation Summary, the PHIVOLCS also reported 626 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux per day at Kanlaon on May 5, 2023.
Plumes obscured the volcano, with the edifice inflated.
Kanlaon was under an Alert Level 1, or low level of unrest.
Entry into the volcano's four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) was prohibited.
Aircraft were also prohibited from flying close to the volcano.
The PHIVOLCS warned that sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions were a hazard at Kanlaon. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
