Two centenarians in Ozamiz receive P300k each as cash gifts

A total of P600,000 in cash was awarded to two women centenarians in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental.

Centenarians Pompia Ochagabia Balcita of Barangay Maningcol and Tiburcia Gaid Parojinog of Barangay Molicay received P300,000 each after celebrating their 100th birthdays this April.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 10, together with other government officials, handed out the cash gifts in a simple ceremony held at the city hall in Ozamiz.

The cash gifts came from the national government by virtue of the Centenarians Act of 2016 (Republic Act 10868), provincial and local governments, and city council.

“These gifts are only one part of how the Ozamiz City LGU expresses our commitment to the welfare of our senior citizens,” Mayor Henry Oaminal Jr. said in a statement.

“As a city, we fully embrace senior citizen-centered policies such as the Centenarians Act so that we may continue to care for our lolos and lolas,” he added.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. also sent them a letter, congratulating their “remarkable feat to reach a hundred years of age, for it reflects a lifetime of victories both big and small.” —VBL, GMA Integrated News
