Ex-President Manuel Roxas’ 75th death anniversary commemorated in Capiz
Government officials led by Vice President Sara Duterte commemorated the 75th death anniversary of former President Manuel Roxas on Saturday.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Manuel Roxas Monument in Roxas City, Capiz, which was attended by Duterte, former President and Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, members of the Roxas family, including former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, and local officials.
Before defeating Sergio Osmeña in the 1946 presidential election, Roxas held a number of leadership roles in the government, including governor, House Speaker, and Senate President.
Roxas served as president from May 28, 1946, until his death on April 15, 1948, due to a heart attack. He died at the age of 56. —Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
