TD Amang strands over 4,500 passengers

Land and sea trips in several areas in Bicol Region were suspended on Wednesday as Tropical Depression Amang continues to dump rains across Luzon, Mark Salazar reported on “24 Oras."

In Catanduanes, one of the areas under Storm Signal Number 1, severe winds with isolated rain showers were experienced in the municipalities of Virac and Bato.

A landslide hit Gigmoto town. No injuries or damage to infrastructure were reported from the incident.

Classes in the province were likewise suspended.

The tropical cyclone also disrupted ship and flight operations in Catanduanes. The local government has since provided relief assistance to the stranded passengers.

Amang made his third landfall over Lagonoy, Camarines Sur at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. It made its first landfall on Tuesday evening in Panganiban, Catanduanes. The second landfall was in Presentacion, Camarines Sur early Wednesday.

Seaports in Sorsogon and Eastern and Northern Samar were allowed to continue operating after the coastal water condition in their respective areas improved.

Around 4,523 passengers in various ports in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Southern Tagalog were affected by the trip cancellations from Tuesday evening to Wednesday afternoon.

Operations at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) went back to normal after the stranded passengers bound for Bicol Region were greenlighted to travel.

The schedule of the only vessel bound for Cebu and Cagayan de Oro from the Manila North Port Terminal was unaffected by inclement weather.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
