Creation of 4 new barangays in San Jose del Monte to benefit public - mayor

San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, Mayor Arthur Robes on Wednesday welcomed the results of the plebiscite that backed the creation of four new barangays in the city.

Results of the March 25 plebiscite showed 12,324 people voted “yes” to splitting the village, while 969 voted “no,” according to the Commission on Elections.

Less than half of the registered voters participated in the plebiscite, or 13,322 out of 43,771, for a voter turnout of 30.44%.

According to Republic Act 11896, Muzon will be divided into four barangays, namely: Barangay Muzon Proper, Barangay Muzon East, Barangay Muzon West, and Barangay Muzon South.

Robes said the division of Barangay Muzon means better delivery of services to the people after its population already reached 127,506 in 2020.

“This will benefit the people because the area of responsibility will be smaller. Before, it was just one barangay captain looking after a large population,” Robes said in a radio interview. —Llanesca Panti/VBL, GMA Integrated News
