Burnham Lake in Baguio is 'blue-ming'
The transformation of Burnham Lake occurred at a perfect time for visitors of Baguio City on Valentine's Day, according to Russel Simorio of GMA One North Central Luzon’s report on "24 Oras."
The manmade lake, which was once green and emits a foul smell, is now clean and "blue-ming" due to the application of organic algae-cide or algae killers or the same substance used for aquariums.
“Nakikita natin ang problem niya na murky, na iba ang amoy niya and it is also affecting niya 'yung mga park goers at mga tourist,” said Atty. Renan Diwas, Baguio City Environment and Parks Management Officer.
In which, the government expects the tourists to be more active as well as the earnings from the boat rentals.
“Hindi lang taga-ibang lugar pero taga na rin dito sa benguet, they will love it,” said Marie Meria, a local tourist.
The local government added that the maintenance of the lake will not be difficult because the blue water will become clearer in the next few days.
“Everything is organic, the fishes usually feeds on algae. Supposed to be they help clean the water kaso we don’t have a lot of fishes. When algae dies, we need to feed the fishes now,” said Aloysius Mapalo, Baguio City Tourism Officer. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
