Video shows dog brutally beaten up, killed in Bulacan

A dog has died after being hit repeatedly by a man in Bulacan.

According to a report by Tina Panganiban-Perez on "24 Oras," a man was caught in a video chasing the dog and hitting it with a large piece of wood.

The dog collapsed on the sidewalk and was unable to move. The man turned it over and repeatedly hit it again until it died.

He then explained that no one owns the dog, and it just wanders around the area. He said it had bitten many people, and that he was almost bitten.

“Sa sobrang takot ko po na baka sumunod pa ako na makagat. Kung hindi ko po nagawa yun, baka marami pa po sigurong na-ano,” the suspect said.

According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), the man's action clearly violates the Animal Welfare Act. Anyone who violates the law may face six months to two years in prison and a fine of up to P250,000.

According to the Executive Director of PAWS, Anna Cabrera, only a veterinarian can decide to kill a dog, depending on the animal's physical condition and if it poses as a risk to humans.

“Kung makaka-intervene tayo o masigawan para matigil yung ongoing crime eh gawin natin. Pero kung sa pakiramdam natin ay malalagay tayo sa peligro, mas mabuting idulog agad sa pulis,” Cabrera said.

Meanwhile, the authorities are encouraging witnesses to file a complaint, as they are willing to help to advance the case. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
