Marine killed, 3 others wounded in Lanao del Sur shooting

A Philippine Marine Corps sergeant was killed and three others were wounded when unidentified armed men fired shots at them in Lanao del Sur on Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Sergeant Tonti Melbert Pamaran, according to a report by James Agustin on Unang Balita on Monday.

The Marines arrived in Barangay Cabasaran in the municipality of Marogong to conduct a "ronda" or patrol when armed men shot at them.

Pamaran was dead on the spot. The three wounded Marines meanwhile were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities recovered rifle cartridge shells at the crime scene.

State forces are conducting pursuit operations against the suspects. —KG, GMA Integrated News
