Student killed, 4 others hurt as truck rams Cavite university
A student was killed and four others were injured after a truck crashed into a portion of a university in Indang, Cavite, police said Monday.
A report by Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB quoted Indang Police chief Police Major Edward Cantano as saying that the students were reading books when the vehicle plowed their area in the main campus of Cavite State University.
The driver Federico Baculan, who was out of the vehicle at the time of the accident, said they were delivering water to the school and he forgot to put a wedge on the truck's wheels.
The lone fatality, a first year student, was declared dead on the spot, according to the report. The four injured students are still being treated.
Baculan is now in the custody of the Indang Police.
In a statement on Facebook, the Cavite State University said it is saddened by the accident.
"We would like to assure the public that the University is providing the victims and their families with necessary assistance," it said.
It added that its administrators are closely monitoring the conditions of the injured students and ensuring that all forms of support are extended.
The university also urged the public to refrain from sharing and posting unverified information that may cause secondary trauma.
"We are asking for prayers as the respective families and the whole CvSU community go through this difficult time," it added. —Joviland Rita/KBK/KG, GMA Integrated News
