Northern Mindanao region confirms 3 deaths from floods
The Northern Mindanao Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) has confirmed three fatalities from severe flooding due to heavy rains brought about by the trough of Low Pressure Area (LPA) affecting the province of Lanao del Norte.
Citing information from the RDRRMC, "Balitanghali" reported that among the three fatalities was an eight-year-old girl who was swept away by rampaging floodwater in the town of Baroy.
Thousands of residents had to prepare for evacuation as rising floodwater entered houses in low-lying residential areas.
Rampaging floodwater also hit the municipality of Tubod, leaving a carpet of mud and rocks on the road, the report added.
According to the Lanao del Norte provincial government, more than 2,000 residents in its seven municipalities have been evacuated due to severe flooding.
Meanwhile, state weather bureau PAGASA said the LPA is already within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and was spotted 195 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
PAGASA said the chance of the LPA becoming a cyclone remains low, but it will still bring rain to several parts of the country. —LBG, GMA Integrated News
