1 dead, over 5,700 affected by Lanao del Norte floods
At least one person was confirmed dead while more than 5,700 people were affected as floods hit Lanao del Norte, the provincial government’s public information office (PIO) said Tuesday.
Provincial information officer Zoila Maxine Esic said the fatality was an eight-year-old child from the municipality of Baroy.
“Sa casualty po, may confirmed po tayong isa... Bata po, ang pangalan is Laurence Grace Patarlas Rapols. Eight years old po, female from Dalama, Baroy, Lanao del Norte,” Esic said.

The victim drowned after their motorcycle was washed away by the floods, according to Esic.
Meanwhile, a total of 5,759 people or 1,227 families were affected by the floods in nine municipalities.
Of the affected population, 1,856 individuals were displaced and staying in evacuation centers.
There were some reported missing persons due to the floods, Esic said.
Some municipalities have yet to give their reports on the effects of the floods in their respective areas, she added.
The floods started to rise around midnight on Monday after a red alert rainfall warning from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, according to Esic.
