Tanay MDRRMO seeks change in ayuda distribution system after deaths of 8 beneficiaries
The Tanay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is asking the national government to adjust the system for the distribution of financial aid, according to its head, Norberto Matienzo Jr.
Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Monday, Matienzo said the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) on Sunday had a meeting with the regional Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“Kahapon, nagkaroon kami ng meeting ng Zoom dito po sa Office of the Civil Defense. Nasabi na rin po natin ang ganyang sistema sa national government po through the regional DSWD po,” he said.
(Yesterday, we had a Zoom meeting here in the OCD. We already suggested that system to the national government through the regional DSWD.)
“Para kung sakali po sana ay magkaroon po ng pagbabago sa kanilang sistema at hindi lamang po apektado itong mga [indigenous peoples] kundi lahat din po ng mga senior citizens na kumukubra ng kanila ayuda,” he added.
(So they may change their system and not only indigenous people are affected but also all senior citizens who are claiming their financial aid.)
Matienzo made the statement when asked about making changes in the distribution system like government personnel should be sent to remote areas to give financial assistance to beneficiaries.
On Saturday, eight passengers of a jeepney—seven senior citizens and a five-year-old child—were killed in Barangay Sta. Ines in Tanay, Rizal after they were swept by a flash flood.
