Albay governor Rosal’s supporters call for TRO vs. Comelec disqualification ruling

Supporters of Albay Governor Noel Rosal flocked to the Supreme Court on Thursday to call for a temporary restraining order against the ruling of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that disqualified him in the May 9 polls.

This came days after the Comelec ordered Rosal to step down from his post, saying a writ of execution had been served to the governor and other parties.

A TRO would temporarily stop the implementation of the decision.

The Comelec en banc earlier dismissed Rosal’s motion for reconsideration and upheld the first division’s decision to disqualify him for violating Section 261(v) of the Omnibus Election Code, or the prohibition against the release, disbursement, or expenditure of public funds 45 days before a regular election.

According to the decision, Rosal had given cash assistance to tricycle drivers and senior citizens sometime in April 2022, or a month before the election. —Joahna Lei Casilao/VBL, GMA Integrated News
