Road in Batangas City collapses due to excavation for power plant construction

A portion of a road in Barangay Dela Paz in Batangas City collapsed after its foundation weakened due to excavation for a power plant.

Based on investigation by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the support beneath the road gave way, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday.

Water from the sea rushed through and the foundation was damaged, as seen in a video from the DPWH Batangas and first aired by GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, the private contractor and the representative of the private company doing the project declined to give a statement.

However they are already coordinating with the DPWH and the local government unit regarding the repair of the road.

Motorists were given alternate routes to use following the incident. —KG, GMA Integrated News
