Christmas park in Lucena briefly closed after crowds damage decor

A Christmas park in Lucena City, Quezon was temporarily closed after the crowds of visitors damaged its decorations, according to Diane Luquillo’s GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog report which aired on “24 Oras” on Tuesday.

The Quezon provincial government, citing the data from the police, said around 100,000 people attended the lightning ceremony of Perez Park last Friday.

One of the park’s attractions was an illuminated field of roses.

However, it was temporarily closed due to damage to its decorations.

“Roses, ‘yung garden natin, ito ‘yung pinaka-prone talaga sa ganoong damage kasi nasa ground sila,” Arcie Romulo, provincial public information officer in Quezon, said.

The local government of Quezon will release guidelines to avoid these incidents.

“May number of people na lang na allowed. At a certain time, may entrance [and] exit na rin, and may mga guidelines na rin na silang susundin. So, magkakaroon na ng restrictions para lang mapatagal pa ‘yung ganda ng mga decoration,” Nesler Almagro, provincial tourism officer, said.
