Driver killed in ambush on couple's vehicle in Concepcion, Tarlac
The driver of a couple involved in business died after their vehicle was ambushed by a lone gunman in Concepcion, Tarlac recently.
According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras”, the suspect shot the driver's side of the SUV three times before he tried to open the door on the passenger's side.
One of the passengers fought back and foiled the gunman's attack.
The suspect tried to again shoot but his weapon failed. He then ran away from the scene.
The incident was caught on CCTV.
A group of bystanders tried to run after the suspect but to no avail.
“Ang plano siguro nu'ng gunman is pi-finish-in pa. Nagkaroon ng commotion nakipag-agawan siya dun sa baril. Nalaglag 'yung magazine nung baril na ginamit,” Concepcion chief of police Police Lieutenant Colonel Noriel Rombaoa said.
(The gunman may have planned to finish the attack. But a commotion ensued after one of the victims tried to snatch his gun. The firearm’s magazine fell.)
Rombaoa said the driver's passengers — whom the police said wished not to be named — were unhurt.
Authorities have already established a lead on who is possibly behind the attack and said it may be related to the couple’s business venture of selling motorcycle parts and accessories.
Based on the initial investigation, the entrepreneurs from Pampanga started their business in 2020 and were able to grow it in 2021 — defeating their competitors in the industry.
“Sa person of interest po kasi, galing po sa kanila mismo kung sino 'yung suspek nila. Dahil sa pananalita nila, matagal ng may sama ng loob kasi 'pag tinitira sila maging sa social media,” Rombaoa said.
(The victims have mentioned the person of interest. According to them, this individual has anger against them because they were being attacked even on social media.)
The slain driver’s remains were already delivered to his residence in Quezon province. He was survived by his live-in partner and two children aged four years old and ten months old.
“Gusto ko, ganun din mangyari sa kanila. Maramdaman din ng pamilya nila 'yung sakit. Hindi 'yung ako lang. Iba 'yung makukulong...parang hindi ako makuntento sa ganun,” his partner said.
(I want the same thing for them. For their family to feel this pain and not just me. To be jailed is one thing but I am not content with it.) —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA News
