State of calamity declared in Quezon province
A state of calamity has been declared in the province of Quezon amid the effects of Tropical Storm Paeng.
According to a statement by the Quezon government on Monday, the provincial council agreed with Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan's recommendation of a declaration of a state of calamity and the use of quick release funds to address the needs of residents affected by the storm.
Storm signals have been lifted for the province but moderate to heavy rainfall is still expected in the southern portion of Quezon, according to weather bureau PAGASA in its 5 p.m. bulletin.
As of Monday morning, transmission lines were still down in some parts of Quezon, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, while the collapse of the Bantilan bridge in Batangas has hampered the flow of people and goods between the two provinces. — BM, GMA News
