9 houses damaged in Cebu City landslide

A landslide that struck an area in Cebu City damaged at least nine houses due heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Paeng, according to a report on “24 Oras Weekend.”

Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that no one was hurt in the incident as residents had evacuated two days before Paeng wreaked havoc in the country.

Investigation of the Mines Geosciences Bureau showed that waterways made the ground soft.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) earlier said there were 379 flooding incidents, 60 landslides, six flash floods, 11 fallen or uprooted trees, and one roadslip due to Paeng.

According to NDRRMC latest situational report, a total of 1,174,666 people or 339,051 families were affected in 3,547 barangays in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, Bangsamoro, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

As of 6 p.m. Sunday, 485,194 people had been displaced, with more than half of them in 3,359 evacuation centers.

At least 83,628 people were also preemptively evacuated in various regions due to Paeng. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
