Candijay town in Bohol conducts preemptive evacuation due to Paeng
TAGBILARAN CITY - A total of 36 families or 117 individuals in Candijay town, Bohol were preemptively evacuated from their homes on Friday afternoon, Oct. 28 due to bad weather brought by Tropical Storm Paeng.
Bohol was among the areas placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 due to "Paeng" on Friday.
Jerry Lacang-Fuentes, head of Candijay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the evacuees were brought to various centers.
"The preemptive evacuation of residents living in flood prone and landslide prone areas is conducted to ensure safety of these residents. This is the MDRRMCs measure against the effects of Tropical Storm Paeng," said Fuentes in an advisory.
As of 4 p.m. on Friday, at least 20 affected families from Barangay Cambane are currently at Tambongan National High School; five families from Barangay Luan at Luan Elementary School; and 11 families from Barangay Panadtaran at Panadtaran Elementary School.
Cambane, Luan and Panadtaran are considered landslide- and flood-prone areas.
The Candijay police and personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and Coast Guard-Candijay also helped in transporting the evacuees.
Fuentes said the local government headed by Mayor Thamar Olaivar provided food and water to the affected families. —BAP, GMA News
