Marilao, Bulacan Mayor Silvestre dies in car accident
Marilao, Bulacan Mayor Ricky Silvestre died after his vehicle hit an electric pole on Prince Balagtas Avenue in Clark Freeport Zone over the weekend.
According to CJ Torrida’s report on GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, the mayor’s driver lost control before hitting the pole.
“Kaka-exit pa lang nila sa may SCTEX Clark North Exit, tapos around 100-200 meters doon na nangyari ‘yung hindi inaasahang aksidente. Hindi pa namin nakakausap ‘yung driver kasi nasa hospital tapos hindi kami makapasok,” Mabalacat City Police Station investigator Police Corporal Jude Gonzales said.
“Iyong initial investigation natin, nasa kabilang lane, nag-swerve. Siguro medyo may speed, tumama sa electrical post,” he added.
Silvestre, along with his driver and secretary, were brought to a hospital for medical treatment.
The mayor succumbed to his injuries.
“Tiningnan ko kung may sumabog sa gulong, wala namang sumabog sa gulong. Sa mechanical, hindi ko pa nasasagot hindi pa namin (napaa-imbestigahan) ‘yung sasakyan. Nakausap ko ‘yung isang anak ni Mayor, kaya lang medyo tuliro pa rin sila kasi nabigla siguro,” Gonzales said.
The secretary has recovered while the driver is still recovering from the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The Mayor’s relatives and friends have offered their condolences on social media, .
On Facebook, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando said that Silvestre was a good public servant.
Before he became mayor, Silvestre served as barangay chairman and became a league of barangay president for 11 years.
Silvestre was serving his second term as the local chief executive of Marilao.
