3 dead, 3 injured as gunmen ambush vehicle in Antipolo

Three people were killed while three of their companions were injured after motorcycle-riding gunmen ambushed a car traversing the Marcos Highway in Antipolo, Rizal Sunday evening.

According to Emil Sumangil’s Monday report on “24 Oras”, the unidentified assailants sprayed the victims’ vehicle with bullets in Barangay Inarawan Sunday evening at past 9 P.M.

Victims Dennis Payla alias Balingit, Rodolfo dela Rosa, and alias “Andrei” were declared dead on the spot while Eduardo Dumangas, Avenlina Dimangas, and Gemina Amores were rushed to a nearby hospital.

“Narinig namin na may pumuputok dun sa harapan mismo ng pinapasukan ng entrance ng impounding,” said witness George Aquino, recalling the incident.

(We heard gunshots at the entrance of the impound.)

“Tapos noong narinig ko 'yung putukan na 'yun, minamanmanan ko na mabuti kung ano bang galaw noong kotse. 'Yung papunta na diya dito bigla na lang humarurot 'yung kotse papunta dito. Nakatumbok. Dyan ako nakatayo tapos 'yung aso na ito nahagip niya doon sa kotse kasi tumalon 'yung kotse doon eh,” he said. “Lumipad 'yung kotse doon sa bangin”.

(When I heard that, I observed the car. It suddenly sped up as it approached us. This dog was sideswiped when the vehicle fell into the ravine.)

An initial investigation showed the victims were en route to Padilla. The car was part of a convoy that included companions on motorcycles when at least three suspects cut across their path and shot them before fleeing towards Baras town.

Authorities are still trying to locate the suspects, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Rizal Provincial Field Unit is conducting a parallel investigation into the incident.
