Residents worried over massive crack in Mt. Arayat

Residents are concerned about a massive crack that has been found on Mt. Arayat because they fear it could cause landslides. 
 
According to the chairman of Barangay San Juan Baño in Arayat, Pampanga, the crack has been existing for some time already. The onslaught of Typhoon Karding in late September, however, seemed to cause the crack to widen.
 
Based on the study of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), there was soil erosion at the top of the mountain.
 
It warned that if another powerful tropical cyclone strikes the region, a massive landslide might occur and cause destruction in several communities. 
 
The PDRRMO created a task force to identify and study preventive measures.
 
The residents of Barangay San Juan Baño refused to be relocated despite the village being declared a permanent danger zone.
