GMA Kapuso Foundation bridge helps Aurora residents get to safety amid Karding onslaught
A bridge constructed by the GMA Kapuso Foundation in October last year helped residents in Barangay Umiray, Dingalan, Aurora get to safety amid the onslaught of Typhoon Karding.
According to a "24 Oras" report, Friday, the 70-meter long concrete bridge held firm against the strong winds and did not get damaged unlike the previous hanging bridges in the barangay.
With its solar lights, the bridge also provided much-needed lighting to the residents when the electricity got cut off due to the typhoon.
"Nagpapasalamat tayo sa Diyos na ang tulay natin sa Dingalan, Aurora bagamat tinamaan, direct hit, ng Bagyong Karding, hindi siya natibag," said Kapuso Foundation EVP/COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog.
Thanks to the bridge, the residents were able to evacuate swiftly and safely. Previously, they had to cross the river by holding onto ropes.
"Kung wala po kasi 'yung tulay baka po mas malaking pinsala, mas maraming napahamak kasi nga po sa ragasa ng tubig," added one of the residents, Rienna Mekitpekit.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuiller, or online through GCash, PayMaya, Shopee, Zalora and Mega Mart.
