PNR Calamba-Lucena route reopens

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) said that it reopened its Calamba-Lucena-Calamba line on Thursday, which will traverse the provinces of Laguna and Quezon.

In a statement, PNR said that the maiden trip of the Calamba-Lucena route departed at 6:30 p.m.

This, the railway management said, happened hours after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. witnessed the signing for four North-South Commuter Railway Projects.

“Patuloy na mabibigyang kulay hindi lang ang turismo, kundi pati na rin ang mas mabilis, at mas komportableng biyahe para sa mga pasahero na galing sa mga probinsya ng Laguna at ng Quezon,” Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

“This railway will offer safe, affordable, convenient, and comfortable transport to Filipinos, while accelerating the country’s economic rebound,” he added.

According to the PNR, the morning trip from Lucena station leaves at 4:50 a.m., while the last trip from Calamba will be at 6:30 p.m.

Through this commuter line, the travel time between Lucena and Calamba takes two hours and 33 minutes, while the running time from from Lucena to San Pablo is one hour and 32 minutes.

The state-owned railway company said the minimum fare from Lucena to San Pablo is capped at P15 and minimum fare from Lucena to Calamba is priced at P20.

Moreover, the Calamba-Lucena-Calamba will have three main stations and nine makeshift flag stops along Pansol, Masili, Los Baños, College, IRRI, Tiaong (Lalig), Candelaria, Lutucan, and Sariaya.
