Two of five fallen Bulacan rescuers laid to rest

Two of the five rescuers from Bulacan who died at the height of Typhoon Karding's onslaught were laid to rest on Saturday.

According to a "24 Oras Weekend" report, Troy Justin Agustin was buried in Plaridel, Bulacan, while George Agustin was laid to rest in Calumpit town.

Marby Bartolome, Jerson Resurrecion, and Narciso Calayag Jr. will be buried on Sunday.

Many expressed their sympathies over the deaths of the rescuers from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Their families and residents also paid tribute to the rescuers at the provincial capitol gymnasium.

According to Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, the rescuers used a boat after their truck broke down on their way to their mission on Sunday in San Miguel town. Due to a flash flood, a wall collapsed and hit them

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. earlier said he was saddened by the deaths of the rescuers, adding "their courage and bravery will live on in our memory."

Several Senate resolutions were adopted on Tuesday, commending and honoring the "exemplary heroism" of the rescuers. —Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA News
