6 fishers reported missing in Camarines Norte due to Karding — NDRRMC
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday it is verifying reports that six fishermen have gone missing in Camarines Norte during the onslaught of Typhoon Karding.
“We are still verifying a report from Camarines Norte Region 5 wherein they reported six missing fishermen, still subject for verification,” NDRRMC deputy spokesperson Raffy Alejandro said at a press conference.
In a Facebook post, Civil Defense Bicol said the Camarines Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that the missing fishermen were from the town of Mercedes.
Meanwhile, Alejandro said five rescuers were killed in Bulacan due to Karding.
A total of 78,907 people or 20,400 families were preemptively evacuated in light of the threat of the typhoon, according to Alejandro.
At least 84 barangays were affected by the typhoon in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, National Capital Region, and Cordillera, he added.
Citing the Department of Agriculture, Alejandro said P141.38 million worth of damage in agriculture was reported. At least 740 farmers, and 16,229 hectares of land were affected.
Power interruptions were reported in two municipalities in Quezon and four municipalities in Camarines Norte, according to Alejandro.
Communications issues were also experienced in a town in Quezon.
A total of 39 domestic flights were canceled due to Karding.
Alejandro said 32 seaports in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol have suspended trips and 2,338 passengers are stranded. — RSJ, GMA News
