Cops raid new billiards place where Bata Reyes was a guest

Police have raided a newly opened billiard hall where in Sto. Tomas, Batangas over reports of alleged illegal gambling and violation of health protocols.

According to the “24 Oras” report of GMA Regional TV’s Andrew Bernando, a crowd had gathered to see billiards legend Efren "Bata" Reyes play.

It wasn't long before the crowd ran away fast when the police came because of the alleged betting among the patrons.

“Yung laro pala na bilyar na ‘yon is nando’n pala si Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes at yung mga nanonood na nando’n na iba ay nagpustahan na,” Police Liutenant Colonel John Eric Antonio said.

“So every set ng laro nila nagkakaroon sila ng pustahan and eventually palaki ng palaki,” he added.

A total of nineteen individuals were arrested, including a minor. Authorities also confiscated P14,000 in bet money.

“Talagang form of illegal gambling din yan dahil once na pumusta ka don sa laro tulad ng bilyar in exchange of bet, form of illegal gambling yan,” Antonio said.

Reyes was a guest at the opening of the new billiard hall. He was sent home after being invited to the police station.

He said he was unaware of the betting. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA News
