83-year-old Davaoeño becomes oldest man to climb Mt. Apo

An 83-year-old man from Davao City was recognized as the oldest man to climb Mt. Apo, the Philippines' highest mountain.

Pascacio Carcedo was honored by the Davao del Sur Tourism Office for setting a new record after ascending the peak on Saturday, according to a report by GMA News' Unang Balita quoting a report from Super Radyo Davao.

Carcedo said that in order to get ready for the journey up Mt. Apo, he first climbed three lower mountains around the municipality of Santa Cruz.

He received the Santa Cruz Trailblazer award and expressed gratitude to those who assisted him in reaching the mountain's summit.

Carcedo surpassed the previous record holder, an 80-year-old Singaporean who also climbed Mt. Apo in 2021. —Alzel Laguardia/KG, GMA News
