One gate open at Binga Dam as water nears spilling level
One gate was open at Binga Dam in Itogon, Benguet to release water, PAGASA said Monday, as the recent monsoon rains boosted the water level in the reservoir.
The gate was open at 0.30 meters as of 6 a.m., data from the PAGASA Flood Forecasting and Warning System for dam operations showed.
Binga Dam’s reservoir water level (RWL) stood at 574.44 meters at 6 a.m.—slightly lower than its spilling level or normal high water level (NHWL) of 575 meters.
PAGASA warned residents living in Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet as their areas may likely be affected by the water spillage.
Typhoon Henry exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday, September 4 but was seen to cause monsoon rains in several parts of the country despite the lifting of all cyclone wind signals, the weather bureau earlier reported.
At 11 a.m. today, PAGASA said the effect of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) has weakened but cloudy skies with scattered rain showers may still persist over North Luzon including Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan in the next 12 hours. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
