Amicable settlement reached in fatal Cavite road accident —police
The family of the 52-year-old security guard who was recently killed by a speeding SUV in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, has entered into an amicable settlement with the vehicle's driver, police said Friday.
Interviewed on Unang Balita, Dasmariñas Police chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Juan Oruga said the suspect has been released from custody.
"Nagkaroon sila ng amicable settlement kaya po na-release na rin 'yung tao [They entered into an amicable settlement so the driver was released]," he said.
Oruga did not identify the SUV driver but said the suspect was apprehended on the same day of the incident.
The victim was directing traffic when he was hit by the SUV. He was immediately taken to the Dasmariñas City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.
Oruga said a case for violation of Republic Act No. 10586 or the anti-drunk driving law was filed against the suspect but they had to drop it following the settlement between the suspect and the victim's family.
"Kung may amicable settlement at notaryado at 'yung mga kamag-anak naman talaga ay willing, walang magagawa ang pulis natin para i-pursue pa 'yung kaso," he said.
