Businessman shot dead in San Jose, Batangas

A 55-year-old businessman was gunned down inside his own vehicle in San Jose, Batangas, according to Paul Hernandez’s report on GMA Regional TV “Balitang Southern Tagalog.”

The victim, identified as Richard Matulac, was on his way to a canteen that he manages when an unidentified gunman shot him early Saturday.

He sustained a gunshot wound on his chest, which caused his death.

Matulac’s family heard the gun shots and rushed to where his vehicle was parked then they found his body, the report said.

(Because the shooting was sudden, his children and wife saw him. They brought him to the hospital.)

Authorities said the gunman may have monitored the activities of the victim prior to the shooting incident.

(They may have monitored his activity because this happened at dawn. It is his regular activity so the perpetrator may already know his schedule.)

GMA News reached out to Matulac’s family but they declined to comment. They also requested privacy as they mourn for the victims’ death.

Local police said they already have a lead but also declined to give further information. They added that there will be a follow-up investigation on the shooting incident. -- Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA News
