Floods hit several towns in Cebu province

Heavy rains triggered flooding in some areas in Cebu province over the weekend GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak's Nikko Sereno reported on “24 Oras.”

Some video footage showed floodwaters wreak havoc in several barangays in Naga City, Cebu including Barangay Pangdan where two parked vehicles were swept away by the powerful surge.

The aftermath of the flooding was also felt in a nearby river and portions of the national highway, where some residents were stranded, the report said.

According to the city government, 100 residents in three districts were affected by the incident.

A surge of floodwaters flowed over the Mantayupan Falls in Barili town, a few minutes after the heavy rains.

Barili Mayor John-John Garcia said the municipal government immediately extended assistance to the victims, adding they are currently assessing the total damage caused by the flooding.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City government conducted clearing operations to prevent a similar situation last week where a house was carried away by the flash floods.

There are 25 barangays in the city that were affected by the floods, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported.  -- Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA News
